KUALA = LUMPUR, Sept 28=20 (Bernama) -- An earthquake measuring 7.4 on the = Richter Scale=20 occurred at 9.39pm tonight in the Mariana Islands = region,=20 1,562 km southeast of Tokyo and 3,139 km northeast of=20 Sandakan, Sabah.

The Malaysian Meteorological=20 Department said in a statement that the earthquake = happened at=20 21.9 degrees north and 142.7 degrees east of the = Mariana=20 Islands region.
